Our staking system is fully customized and offers unique capabilities compared to the majority seen in the CNFT space. Initially it will appear somewhat similar to a traditional staking system and in the future it will be developed so it can be incorporated into our [missions](https://spaceottersociety.gitbook.io/space-otter-society-captains-log/ecosystem-and-utility/missions-or-lore) among other use-cases within our ecosystem.

Every Space Otter Society NFT can be staked to earn our token, <mark style="color:green;">$SHELLS</mark>, at a fixed rate every epoch depending on [*profession*](https://spaceottersociety.gitbook.io/space-otter-society-captains-log/ecosystem-and-utility/professions) and [*rarity*](https://spaceottersociety.gitbook.io/space-otter-society-captains-log/ecosystem-and-utility/rarity).

The value of <mark style="color:green;">$SHELLS</mark> will be determined by the Otter Team and is subject to change if necessary for the health, sustainment, and future viability of the project. These decisions will always be transparent and will be made with the highest level of scrutiny and will not occur frequently, if at all. Factors such as but not limited to external markets, the value of ADA, and increasing costs of future development may play a role in this decision in the future.

Claiming <mark style="color:green;">$SHELLS</mark> occurs through a portal on our website. You must claim your current stake to start a new stake. In the future, you will be able to claim any time you wish.

## Supply

Total supply will be 3,000,000 <mark style="color:green;">$SHELLS</mark>.

We do not plan to list <mark style="color:green;">$SHELLS</mark> on a DEX and/or provide liquidity for this purpose.
